Manzano

storm 90 °F

Today we finally took the trip I've wanted to...around the Manzano Mtns. 140 mile loop. Down through ranch country and up the other (east ) side to TiJeras Canyon saw quite a few freight trains going through the valley and took a lot of pictures of the area, which I can't load til I fix iphoto (again). Beautiful scenery and even some significant rains on the way down , temp went from 99° to 74° in about 10 miles. New Mexico seems different with rain, strange... but we really need it

fire

in our backyard

so we were snacking and relaxing and I happened to look out across the back and noticed it was on fire! Donna called 911 and I took some pictures of the blaze. We were worried that the wind would turn and bring the fire here, but we lucked out , the FD came and the wind kept going in a NW direction. It was about 3.3 miles from here. The FD got the fire out completely and quickly, we are thankful for themIMGP3977

sunny 104 °F

so we went up to Cochiti Lake to swim, what a beautiful spot we fought the wind while having our picnic and went in only to our bathing suits. While we were there we visited the visitor center which was very interesting. When we came outside of the building we noticed smoke coming from a distant Mtn. which turns out to be the recently started Las Conchas fire, (it started while we were watching!), that was 1pm according to the fire web site we use, and it has already consumed 1000 acres in a little over 6 hrs, Yikes!!! We were horrified when we saw it because in these winds we knew it meant BIG TROUBLE for the area. We are very saddened by that image, I think it will stay with me for a while.
